Dr. Kannankeril oversees the component of the project which focuses on variability in cardiac repolarization and antiarrhythmic drug response. His research focuses on electrophysiologic response to exercise, and genetic variability in cardiac ion channels and regulatory subunits.

These investigations involve normal subjects, as well as, patients with drug-induced QT prolongation. In addition, Dr. Kannankeril has developed a murine electrophysiology lab at Vanderbilt that allows intracardiac electrophysiology studies to be performed in transgenic mouse models of cardiomyopathy, conduction system disease, and ion channelopathies.
